The Clapper Reviews
I first received a clapper about 10 years ago as a Christmas gift. I had seen all of the 'funky' ads on TV and thought is was goofy until I plugged the night stand lamp into it and started using it. I now can not be with out one to turn off the lamp at bedtime. This one is not the upgraded version I had used for about 5 years before it croaked, but it works.

I have an incandescent floor lamp and the Clapper works great with it. OTOH, another lamp is fitted with fluorescent bulbs, and the Clapper doesn't work at all. I called the manufacturer and only then was told that the Clapper will not work with a fluorescent fixture. Nowhere is that mentioned. Beware.

First a warning in reply to all those who've had their clappers go up in flames, smoke or short out. I have no way of knowing what those folks had plugged into theirs but this warning should apply to most. This model of the Clapper is only rated for a MAXIMUM of 200 Watts per outlet. If you try to control a lamp with three 100 watt bulbs, it is going to overheat or maybe burn up. If you use it with a halogen floor lamp, they only come with 300 or 500 watt bulbs. So pay attention to the bulbs in the lamp you want to control. Since it has a 200 watt rating per outlet, controlling a lamp with a 100 watt bulb shouldn't even make the unit work hard. If you want to control MORE light, then use another 100 Watt bulb lamp plugged into the second outlet. Also remember, incandescent bulbs only. Halogens draw too much current period and it doesn't work with fluorescents. There MIGHT be some of the new energy saver CFL (curly fry shape) fluorescents that will work, but I'd...

Its a bit testy as to how you clap. Other than that it works just as it should.

It's old school as hell but people still love it. Our dog barks religiously when we are gone at night and it probably makes us look crazy having the lights turning on and off non stop.

It's been out for a while, but as an invalid, it's a real step saver. Only 4 stars, because some sounds on TV or around the house may turn the light on or off, but just clap to return to normal.

My 12 year old daughter wanted this item for her birthday. She absolutely loves that she can lie in bed and turn the lights on and off. She was able to assemble it all on her own.
